Training on ELISA testing commences

A three-day training programme for laboratory technicians and in-charges, and DSU microbiologists on "Hands on ELISA Testing" commenced at Shija Academy Of Health Sciences, Langol on Wednesday.
The programme organised by Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) of National Health Mission Manipur was attended by Health Services director Dr Chambo Gonmei and the Shija Academy director Dr M Amuba as chief guest and president respectively while Shija Hospital medical services director Dr Jugindro Sorokhaibam and Directorate pf Health Services surveillance officer Dr S Gopal were present as guests of honour.
Speaking at the event, Dr Chambo recounted that in the past, test samples used to be generally sent outside the state due to lack of facilities.
However, with advancement in medical science, several labs have been established in the state, and wide range of tests conducted, though handful of tests are still in need of minute examination at better facilities in major cities, he noted.
The director also said that for conducting complex diagnostic tests requiring precision, lab technicians must be highly skilled.
As it is considered essential for technicians to stay updated on the latest developments in the field, the training programme is crucial, as subject matter experts will be providing the technicians with the latest knowledge and advancement in technologies, he said.
