Saarthi smart canes distributed

Under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme of IRCTC, Blind People's Association, Torchit and Welfare Association for the Blind, Manipur distributed Saarthi smart canes to the visually impaired people on Monday.
The distribution programme held at the office of Welfare Association for the Blind Manipur, Takyel SAI Road was attended by commissioner in-charge of Persons with Disabilities, government of Manipur Waikhom Birahari Singh as chief guest, Welfare Association president Yambem Brajamohon Singh as president and Blind People's Association coordinator Prem Kumar as guest of honour.
Speaking at the event, Birahari recalled his participating in a programme held in a university in Jammu & Kashmir where visually impaired people walked just like normal people and wished for such a situation becoming a reality in Manipur soon.
Assuring to work for ensuring rights of Persons with Disabilities (Pw'Ds), he reminded that no person from PwD was included in the recruitment of RIMS nursing officer earlier.
Subsequently, a case was filed against the RIMS director and it led to ensure the rights of PwD.
Moreover, during the recruitment of 145 assistant professors under Education (U) and section officers of public health department, no reservation was made for PwD.
As such, a case had been filed in the court and hearing of the same scheduled for June 27, he added.
Saarthi smart canes were distributed to 50 beneficiaries during
the programme.
