Imphal, November 27 2024:
Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) has announced series of agitations against the state government's policy to shut down educational institutions as and when the state faces unrest situation.
Declaring the decision to launch the agitation during the 19th foundation day of KSA at Khoyathong community hall on Wednesday, president Sukham Bidyananda criticised the state government for belittling the demands of the people, including the call to rope in the NIA for investigation into the recent killing of women and children in Jiribam and repeal AFSPA, which was re-imposed in areas under six police stations, from the entire state.
Contrary to chief minister N Biren informing on Tuesday that the NIA has already started investigating the Jiribam cases, the student leader alleged that the government has taken no action so far.
Noting that the government has initialed stringent measures to maintain law and order in the state by imposing curfew in vulnerable areas, closing down educational institutions and suspending mobile internet services, Bidyananda opined that such strategies are unlikely to reap fruit.
On the contrary, actions of the government infringe on the rights to education, said the president, while reiterating that in denunciation of such anti-people policies of the government, KSA and other like-minded organisations have resolved to launch a series of agitations.
Meanwhile, the KSA foundation day programme was marked by the attendees offering floral tributes to the photograph of KSA Jiribam District Council executive member Athouba Khundrakpam, who was killed in firing by security forces on November 17 in Jiribam.
