Imphal, June 15 2024:
Holding the DGP and the security advisor responsible for the violent incidents in Jiribam, The Great June Uprising Unity Day Observation Committee has said that the 'incompetent' DGP and the security advisor should resign from their respective post on moral grounds.
Prior to the observance of 23rd The Great June Uprising Unity Day to be organised jointly by UCM and AMUCO on June 18, a cleanliness drive was conducted at the martyrs' memorial site located at Kekrupat on Saturday, during which tree saplings were also planted.
Speaking in this regard, The Great June Uprising Unity Day Observation Committee chairman and UCM president Joy-chandra Konthoujam said that preparation for the observance of 23rd The Great June Uprising Unity Day has been completed.
Urging the people to attend the observance and pay tributes to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for protecting the integrity and territory of Manipur, he exhorted all to participate in the blood donation programme to be held at RIMS and JNIMS as well.
The state government should announce a decision as it is now known that the present unsettling situation in the state is an attack on the Meetei society by Kuki narco-terrorists and central security forces.
Despite the report about the movement of 200 Kuki militants towards Jiribam, which is resided by people of different communities, from the chief minister's office; the DGP and the security advisor failed to take up necessary precautionary measures.
As such, violence has gripped Jiribam today.
So, the incompetent DGP and the security advisor should resign on moral grounds, he reiterated.
Pointing out that Manipur is home to different communities, Joychandra said that pressure has been exerted on the village chiefs of Kom and Kharam communities to add 'Kuki' as suffix in the name of their people cautioning that they will be deprived of the benefits.
If such pressure is true then Kuki should stop such threat and the government should look into the matter, he added.
Observation Committee co-chairman and AMUCO president Nando Luwang said that the observance has been conducted annually at Kekrupat to show that people are against the attempts to disrupt the integrity of Manipur by India government.
People of Manipur stand firm to protect the integrity and territory of Manipur.
As India government's attempts to disrupt the integrity of Manipur failed, they have been trying to instigate among the different communities to fight.
He further said that India government instigated Kuki-Zo militants to disrupt the territory and integrity of Manipur since May 3, 2023.On May 4, a retired CRPF officer was appointed as the security advisor, showing that India government knew about the conflict before.
However, the conflict could not be ended even after a year, he contended, while questioning why the government still retains his position.
As peace could not be restored in the state, there is the need to figure out a new method, Nando added.
