BJP candidates banking on hill-valley unity
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, February 14 2022: BJP candidates are using their claims of hill-valley unity and development to woo voters in the ensuing assembly election as several candidates of the party conducted flag hoisting ceremonies at their respective residences on Monday.

Attending the flag hoisting ceremonies of BJP candidates for Wangoi and Wangkhei assembly constituencies Oinam Lukhoi and Okram Henry respectively on Monday, chief minister N Biren said that Congress is trying to prove itself as a friend of minority communities but it is questionable if the Congress party could access the hill areas of the state during their rule.

On the other hand, the BJP government has constructed several market complexes along with hospitals and oxygen plants in the hill districts, he said and added that the BJP government is committed to serving the public.

There was a time when elderly women could not get a good night's sleep but those days have gone.

There were only 25 oxygen cylinders before the Covid-19 pandemic and hospitals had to defer routine surgeries due to highway blockade.

Today, there are more than 20 oxygen plants in the state.

Interestingly, Congress is claiming credit for Makru and Barak Bridges, which is shameful, he said.

Minister O Lukhoi said that he is not contesting the election to accumulate wealth but to serve the public selflessly by following the path of former chief minister late Wahengbam Nipamacha.

Creation of Wangoi district is his main priority and once this target is achieved, he can retire from politics, he said.

Okram Henry said that road conditions in Wangkhei AC have been improved significantly and from now on, he will focus on improving the living standards of the poor people of the AC.

Moreover, he is planning to take up initiatives for skill development for youth and create income generation opportunities, he said.

Rajya Sabha MP, titular king of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba also attended both the ceremonies.

Meanwhile, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sar-ma, while attending the flag hoisting ceremony of MLA Susindro of Khurai assembly constituency held at his Khurai Sajor Leikai residence on Monday, said that the party's government will entrust a big responsibility of bringing development in Khurai and Manipur as well to Susindro by consulting with PM Modi and BJP central leaders if he got elected this time too.

On seeing the crowd gathered at the event and hailing Susindro's role in the BJP government, Himanta expressed confidence that Susindro will win the election with a margin of at least 10,000 votes.

He also said that Assam government provided 90 oxygen cylinders to the state at the request of Susindro.

Appreciating the assurance of providing tablets to students given by the MLA, Himanta said that he will help him in providing scooter to girl students with high marks in examinations and sponsor education of medical and engineering students from the constituency.

He also assured of helping people of Khurai when they come to Guwahati for medical treatment and for this he will reserve a building on rent.

MLA Susindro condemned violent incidents related with elections that occurred in the constituency and appealed to all concerned to stop such acts.

BJP national spokesperson and Manipur election in-charge Sambit Patra, union MoS for social justice and women empowerment Pratima Bhoumik and several leaders of BJP Manipur Pradesh and Khurai Mandal also attended the event.

Flag hoisting ceremony of BJP candidate for Bishnupur assembly constituency Govindas Konthoujatn was also held at his Ningthoukhong residence on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, union MoS Pratima Bhoumik asserted that BJP will win all the six seats in Bishnupur district and called upon the people of the district to help in uprooting.Congress party from the soil of the state.

Govindas said that there is no crack within BJP and the party will fight the election under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Though some selfish party members might left BJP, the party's strength in intact, he said.

BJP candidate for Moirang AC M Prithviraj and leaders of BJP state unit and Bishnupur Mandal were also present at the event, While attending flag hoisting ceremony of BJP candidate for Patsoi assembly constituency Sapam Kunjakeswor held at his residence at Tera Keithel on Monday, union minister of law Kiren Rijiju appealed to the people of Patsoi to ensure that BJP wins the seat this time.

The BJP government has brought many significant developments in the last five years and the next five years will mark a new era of development in the state under BJP Kunjakeswor is a well-experienced public leader and it is up to the people of Patsoi if they want to see real development under his leadership.

Kunjakeswor said that the gathering shows that all his efforts are yielding good results and expressed confidence that he will definitely win this time and lotus will bloom in Patsoi.

Flag hoisting ceremony of BJP candidate for Lamlai assembly constituency Khongbantabam Ibomcha was also held at his Nongada residence on Monday in the presence of BJP Manipur Pradesh leaders and Lamlai Mandal leaders.

In Hiyanglam assembly constituency, BJP candidate MLA Dr Radheshyam Yumnam conducted his flag hoisting ceremony at his Langmeidong Keithel residence on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Radheshyam mentioned achievements of the BJP government and benefits of having double engine government while calling for public support in the ensuing election.

Road conditions in the constituency were bad before he became the MLA but today, several road renovation works have been completed and many are in progress.

As for the road stretch from Wabagai Lamkhai to Sugnu, model code of conduct prevented from floating e tender for the project.

Besides, some individuals created hurdles to prevent the project from happening just because they could take political mileage.

However, the road project will be taken up just after the election, he said.

Heirok MLA Dr Thokchom Radheshyam, BJP Hiyanglam Mandal president Thoudam Hemanta, Kakching ZP Adhyaksha Ph Jiten, Waikhong ZP member Ch Indrajit, Hiyanglam ZP member E Ranjana, Waikhong GP pradhan W Brojen, Sekmaijin GP pradhan K Ibomcha, Langmeidong GP pradhan Y Bedapati and Hiyanglam AC BJP Central Election Committee president Yumnam Ibobi attended the event.

On the other hand, BJP candidate for Keirao assembly constituency MLA Lourem bam Rameshwar said that he will put his priority in creating self-employment opportunities to improve economic condition and to make Keirao the cleanest AC in the next term.

Speaking at his flag hoisting ceremony held at his Kyamgei residence on Monday, the MLA said that he is skipping large scale flag hoisting ceremony this time and instead, he is offering prayer at Umanglai complexes of different localities.
