Jiribam, January 22 2018:
The lack of workers/labourers to engage in the loading and unloading of imported goods from Jiribam train station to Jiribam FCI godown, has led to huge losses and immense hardships to the people.
The absence of labourers has also caused numerous inconveniences to the drivers who wait for days to transfer the goods towards Imphal.
In connection with the matter, a team of media persons visited Jiribam train station to enquire why the goods had to be kept/ delayed at the train for a long time to unload.
During the inspection, a representative of Zimomi firm, which handles the transportation of goods from Jiribam FCI to Sangaiporou and Koirengei godown, stated that the firm has been facing shortage of labour for more than two months and the authorities concerned have been repeatedly urged to solve the matter at the earliest but no positive step has been taken up till date.
The Zimomi firm has been paying the charges unnecessarily since the firm has insufficient number of labourers, the representative added.
He urged the authorities concerned to solve the problem at the earliest considering the grievances of the firms as well as the drivers.
Meanwhile, another two firms, namely JB Bros and NR Mathai, maintain the loading and unloading of goods at the station and when the media persons interacted with the members of RN Mathai firm, they (the firm) asked how the loading/unloading work can be carried out successfully with only 22 labourers.
Several drivers who wait for the goods so as to transport them from Jiri towards Imphal FCI godowns, expressed dissatisfaction over the unnecessary delay in unloading the goods while stating that transportation could be fastened if more labourers are hired.
