Imphal, January 22 2018:
Chief Minister N Biren and MLAs elected from the hill districts today held a meeting and discussed the dismal rate of Aadhaar enrolment in hill areas.
The meeting was also participated by Chief Secretary RR Rashmi, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Dr Suresh Babu and the DCs concerned.
The meeting decided to keep open permanent Aadhaar enrolment centres at DC and SDO offices, informed a source.
After the ongoing third round of special drive for Aadhaar enrolment, there would not be any more such special drives and citizens must come to the Aadhaar enrolment centres.
The third round has so far covered 1948 villages and only 280 villages are left.
The Government spent Rs 1.8 crore in the third round of the special drive, said the source.
As per the Central Government's guidelines, there should be only two rounds of Aadhaar enrolment drives but the State Government went for the third round in view of the lukewarm or non-response in hill areas.
The meeting also discussed about providing logistic support to DCs, and SDOs of the newly created districts so mat they can stay put and work on the field.
The DCs were also instructed to geo-tag villages where people do not come out for Aadhaar enrolment and submit reports to the Government.
The meeting further discussed development of infrastructure and installation of necessary facilities at the newly created districts, added the source.
