Imphal, June 24 2024:
In a memorandum addressed to chief minister N Biren, Ireng Naga (Puiluang) Village Authority, Kangpokpi district has urged the government to rename Kangchup Geljang sub-division as Ireng Constituent sub-division of Kangpokpi district.
In the representation dated April 16, Ireng Naga VA chairman CH Loveson recalled that it had submitted an objection petition to the CM on August 30, 2013 regarding formalisation of Kangchup Geljang constituent sub-division.
Referring to judgement and order (May 3, 1979) passed by the court of Deputy Commissioner of Manipur North District (Misc case No 2 of 1974 and Judgment and order dated 03/05/1988), Gauhati High Court Imphal Bench (Civil Rule No 143 (a) of 1980 and order (30/06/1988) of District Judge Manipur in original suit (land acquisition) case No 2 (A) of 1981, it pointed out that the decrees stated that Kangchup Geljang is not a full-fledged village.
Further stating that in the early 1940s, Kuki hamlet Kangchup Geljang was established, the memorandum mentioned that since time immemorial Ireng Naga has been the sole owner of the land.
The Kangchup Geljang has no legal right to the title constituent Sub-Division of Kangpokpi District.
"Therefore, Ireng Naga Puiluang Village Authority earnestly appeal your good office to rename Kangchup Geljang Sub-Division of Manipur Gazette of Revenue Department as Ireng Constituent Sub-Division Kangpokpi District.
It is our hope and aspirations that under your able leadership the indigenous people of Manipur will prosper and live with dignity and harmony," mentioned the memorandum.
