Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Kishan Morcha, Manipur Pradesh expressed grief over the loss of twenty persons on Saturday's landslide at Joumoul village and one each in Thoubal, Chandel and Churachandpur district in landslide and flood related incidents.
While demanding a long term policy to avoid such disasters, president of the party in a press release demanded ex-gratia for the dead, immediate relief materials, crop insurance and compensation for submerged paddy fields and fish farms.
In the meantime, Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution Labourers' Welfare Association (CAF&PDLWA) has announced to donate Rs 1 lakh from the salary to the flood affected people, apart from providing PDS items available with CAF&PD to relief camps and flood affected areas across the State.
CAF&PDLWA secretary general in a press statement said that more than 40 workers are camping at Labour Rest House and Godown Campus to deliver immediate relief to the flood affected people.
The release also appealed to PDS agents/nominees to contact the association in case of any inconvenience or lack of manpower while distributing daily essential commodities like rice, sugar and kerosene.
The association said it would give priority to the affected people in Thoubal, Chandel and Bishnupur districts for now and appealed to Relief and Disaster Management Department, Irrigation and Flood Control Department and CAF&PD Dept for timely intervention.
It also demanded the State Govt to form a special task force and make a survey of all the affected houses, paddy fields, fish farms and properties while distributing relief materials at the same time.
Meanwhile, the association assured to extend support to the ongoing mass movement on ILPS and warned the Govt of more unwanted strikes if failed to pass an ILP Bill by August 15 .
