The Institution of Engineers (India) Manipur State Centre and the Indian Concrete Institute, Manipur Centre will be organising a one day workshop on management and treatment of solid waste and sewage in Imphal city and the surrounding areas on June 27at the auditorium of Government Polytechnic,Takyel.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the daily amount of sewage produced at Imphal city and the surrounding areas is over 132 MLD.
The State has a sewage treatment plant with a capacity of 28 MLD but as it is not functioning properly, around four kilometres of the Nambul river gets polluted by the untreated sewage product.
This polluted water then gets mixed into the Loktak lake thereby leading to adverse effects on the environment.
According to researchers and the collected data, the physio chemical parameter of the Nambul river water is way over the permissible level and hence the workshop has been planned to spread awareness about the proper methods to dispose off waste products and sewage.
The current state of untreated sewage and its effects, sewage treatment and design aspects will be discussed in the programme.
