A project initiated by the Department of Mass Communication, Manipur University regarding the displaced people following the ethnic violence in the state has been completed.
The project includes testimonies and interviews of people who have been displaced by the ethnic violence and are taking shelter in relief camps in different parts of the state.
Speaking during a function held in this regard at Arts and Science senate hall of Manipur University on Saturday, Manipur University VC professor N Lokendro pointed out the need to rectify the false narratives surrounding the history of Manipur which is being circulated on social media, and urged the young and expert historians of Manipur University to do the needful.
He said that many false narratives on the history of Manipur have been circulated during the current conflict in the state.
One should understand that whatever stories written based on past events cannot be termed as history.
History should be based on facts.
The fabricated stories which some self-acclaimed historians of some communities are coming up with are very unfortunate and could not last long.
Therefore, it is the responsibility of the present young historians of Manipur University to look into the matter and correct the false history, he added.
The function was also attended by JNIMS Psychiatry department head Dr Koijam Shantibala, Manipur Human Rights Commission deputy secretary E Anand, MU Mass Communication department adjunct faculty Aribam Syam Sharma and School of Social Science dean professor Th Purnima.
