Foundation for Bailey bridge over Leimatak laid

Imphal, January 31 2013:
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam today laid the foundation stone for construction of a Bailey bridge over Leimatak River to Thangal Khunnou and Taoshang village in Tamenglong district.
The foundation stone laying function which was held on the Thangal Khunnou side of Leimatak River was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam and Works Minister Dr Kh Ratamkumar as Chief Guest and President respectively.
Chief Secretary DS Poonia and Commissioner of Power Rajesh Aggarwal were also present on the occasion as Guests of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Gaikhangam stated that it has been almost 20 years that the Loktak Downstream Project has been planned to be taken up over Leimatak River along Taoshang village under Nungba A/C in Tamenglong district.
The process has been delayed due to certain unavoidable circumstances.
Nonetheless, under the initiative of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, the project has newly approved by the Union Cabinet and an amount of Rs 2.50 has been sanctioned for commencement of the project, he added.
The Deputy Chief Minister further informed that since construction of the road along Tupul to Thangal khunnou is necessary for initiation of the project, the construction work has been started and it is 90% completed.
The Works Minister is also planning to complete singling process before arrival of the monsoons.
The construction of the Bailey Bridge would also be completed within six months, he assured.
Works Minister Kh Ratankumar, while delivering the Presidential speech, appealed to the public to give full co-operation in the development programmes being taken up in the area and also instructed the persons involved in the construction process to maintain quality.
