Senapati, September 10 2015 : NPF Manipur in a statement has reiterated its stance that the Bills passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly is clearly against the interest of the tribals of Manipur and that the NPF will not change its stand on the Bills.

According to NPF Manipur president Awangbou Newmai, NPF on many occasions had mentioned that the party would support if the State Assembly passes the original draft of the ILP Bills.

However, the recently passed Bills have betrayed the tribals of Manipur.

It also accused the present State Government for initiating 'undemocratic and unconstitutional' steps.

"Due consultation with all different communities of the State were never organized nor any tribal member included in the Drafting Committee of the controversial Bills.

The tribals will not bow to such bias but will collectively stand against it," added the statement.

Questioning the hidden motive of the State Government as to why the Bills were passed when it is not Constitutionally acceptable to all and not channelised through the Hill Areas Committee (HAC), the statement said that such serious procedural lapses show that the present State Government works only for a specific community.

With regard to the issue of passing a resolution on Naga peace accord in Manipur State Assembly on August 31, the NPF president noted that NPF MLAs were discontented against such anti-Naga resolution.

Instead of welcoming peaceful solutions to long pending issues of the Nagas which is the common interest of the people, the resolution moved by the Government is a challenge to the tribals especially the Nagas.

In connection with the ADC formation in Chandel and Tamenglong, the NPF president alleged the State Government for attempting to dislodge the claims of the NPF in both the ADCs.

Even after delaying the formation for three months which was totally against the wishes of the people, the State Government has exercised yet another undemocratic process in Chandel ADC by deferring the official notification issued by TD/Hills Department through a mere verbal information.

Informing the State Government to stop misleading the people, the statement stated that curtailing people's rights and democratic process will only escalate the present social unrest in the hill districts of Manipur.

NPF Manipur will stand by the rights and wishes of the tribals of Manipur, the statement added.
