Imphal, May 22 2023:
Categorically stating that mob justice will not bring anything positive, Chief Minister N Biren has appealed to all the people to calm down.
Speaking to media persons at the Chief Minister's Secretariat this afternoon, N Biren said that the Government has been taking up stringent actions against all offenders/culprits.
Three persons including an ex-MLA have been arrested along with two licensed guns in connection with the uproar witnessed today at New Lambulane after a few armed individuals threatened the local people not to open shops and other businesses at Tribal Market, New Checkon, Biren said.
Reminding that the State Government has already given a number of emergency call numbers to the people, the Chief Minister appealed to all to inform the Government or nearest police stations or the SP concerned if they see any wrongful or provocative activity.

The Government is not sitting silently.
Operations are being carried out in suspected areas of both the valley and the hills, he said.
Expressing displeasure over blocking fire tenders by a mob at New Lambulane today, Biren said that all human beings tend to commit mistakes but there should be time for reconciliation.
All the citizens must comply with the rule of law, he said.
Deployment of security forces in vulnerable/suspected areas is almost complete.
Moreover, due process has been initiated to requisition 20 additional companies of security forces, he said.
Stating that the first priority is restoration of peace, Biren informed that FIRs have been registered against people who uploaded provocative and misleading posts in social media from places where internet/data services are not banned.
"What happened has happened.
Let us forget and forgive each other and work collectively towards restoration of peace", he said.
He then appealed to all concerned to lift the blockades being imposed on highways and also not to threaten shopkeepers.
Reminding that shoot at sight order has been already issued, Biren appealed to all those people residing at foothills not to venture out of their homes at night.
"Put faith in us, we will save Manipur and Manipur will remain as one", Biren said.
"Manipur is a common home of 34 tribes and we will continue to live together", he said.
Regarding the firing incident which took place at Moidangpok last night, Biren said that a few people came to the area with apparent intention to loot some articles from a farm.
The intruders pelted stones toward the farm so as to check if any one was present at the farm.
But the people who were present at the farm did not give any response.
As there was no response, the intruders approached the farm.
But their approach coincided with the opening of the farmhouse's door, Biren recounted.
The intruders were frightened when the door opened suddenly and they fired a few rounds of shots causing minor injuries to two individuals, he said.
Subsequently, additional forces were sent and search operations were carried out.
In the course of the search operation, two suspects were apprehended and a gun was seized, Biren added.
