In a significant development, several apex students� organizations of Assam and Manipur have jointly urged all the concerned Naga organizations including the NSCN (IM) not to call blockades or bandhs on national highways 39 and 53, which affects Manipur particularly, in future.
The students� organizations, including the Asom Jatiyotabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Karbi Students� Association (KSA), All Dimasa Students� Union, All Bodo Students� Union (ABSU), All Assam Manipuri Students Union (AAMSU) and all Manipur Students� Union (AMSU), have also jointly warned the Naga organizations including the NSCN (IM), Naga Students� Federation (NSF), United Naga Council (UNC), Zeliangrong Students� Union (ZSU) and their sympathizers-organizations neither to take such a drastic step nor to harm the common harmony of the North East stating that such �nasty� policy and actions will oblige them to take �counteractions�.
A joint statement issued by Apurba Kumar Bhattacharjee and Dilip Shankar Saikia, president and general secretary of AJYCP, and A Shyam Singh, AMSU spokesman, and faxed to this newspaper said resolutions to this effect were taken during a joint meeting of the students� organizations yesterday morning at the central committee office of the AJYCP in Gauhati with AK Bhattacharjee in the chair.
In another resolution, the organizations appealed to the Central and state government to release immediately and unconditionally the AMSU leaders and others arrested during the territorial integrity movement in Manipur.
