Under the joint initiative of the Shija Eye Care Foundation, Lions Club of Thoubal and District Blindness Control Society, Thoubal, a total of 62 cataract patients have been treated successfully so far, claimed Medical Superintendent of Shija Hospital and Research Institute Dr Jugindro.
Talking to media persons this afternoon, Dr Jugindro said that a free cataract surgery camp was held for Thoubal district on March 27 under the joint aegis of the Shija Eye Care Foundation, Lions Club of Thoubal and District Blindness Control Society, Thoubal.
Out of 122 patients who attended the camp, 97 were identified for operation.
Some of them were operated upon at Shija Health Care and Research Institute on March 29 by doctors of the institute.
All the selected patients will be operated upon till April 2 to cure them from cataract.
So far 62 cataract patients including 32 women have been successfully treated.
Dr Sachindra Laishram and his wife Dr Noornika Laishram said that cataract is not a disease which is difficult to be treated.
This ailment can be treated in a short period by performing a normal operation.
However, cataract can rob one's eye-sight permanently if not treated or operated in time, they said.
