Imphal, November 27 2024:
Several civil society organisations and village authorities have expressed concern over the stand-off between NSCN (IM) and ZUF at Sangji village since November 26 .
In this regard, RNPO president Sebastein Kamei, VCLA chairman Adai Dangmei, RNCM Longmai Luangrian chairman MK Jacob, RNCM general secretary Gailanchung Kamei, RNLPM Longmai Luangrian secretary Thanthailiu, RNLPM vice president Ningthuiliu, social worker Daniel Malangmei, Sangji Village Authority chairman Tendaipou Kamei, Dolang VA chairman Thangthoilen Thoitak, Lamdangmei VA chairman MS Franky, RNYOM president Richard Kamei and Longsai VA chairman Kabidon Gonmei issued a joint statement on Wednesday.
The bodies denounced the confrontation between the two armed groups, stating that cadres of both are defying repeated appeals to refrain from acts of violence that jeopardise the lives of innocent civilians, especially during this festive season.
The indiscriminate firing in close vicinity of the village reportedly by NSCN (IM) cadres is condemned in the strongest term, the bodies stated, adding that continued indulgence in provocative activities among the Naga brethren is against the sentiment of the public.
"The attacks and counterattacks hunting each other should stop with immediate effect," the release maintained, while appealing to the cadres to leave Sangji village.
The people shall resort to mass protest in case the parties involved disrespect sentiment of the people, the joint release said, while urging the parties concerned to exercise maximum restraint and avoid any acts that could lead to tragedies, or subjecting the people to threat or intimidation.
Any group initiating such acts shall be held responsible for the loss caused and answerable to the call as per the law of the land.
The joint consultation, of all the CSOs, resolved to declare non-co-operation against the group responsible for such eventualities, the release added.
