MTU teams excel at Smart India Hackathon

Manipur Technical University's Team Sangai and Builders' Squad bagged first and third positions, respectively, in the senior category of the Mega Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon 2022-Hardware Edition under the AICTE-MIC Student Innovation category.
The Grand Finale of the 5th edition of Smart India Hackathon 2022 was organised by the Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell, AICTE, Persistent Systems Pvt Ltd and Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, with Shell India Private Ltd and Amazon Web Services Incorporation as official partners from August 25 to 29 at 75 nodal centres all over the country as part the Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav celebration.
Over 2000 participating teams were shortlisted from more than 2 lakh teams after four competitive screening rounds.
The event was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the presence of Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education RK Ranjan Singh.
Addressing the event, the Prime Minister said that SIH has become an important platform for innovators to showcase their ideas and talents.
"The country is working on big resolutions about how our country will be after 100 years of independence.
You are the innovators who are the flag bearers of the slogan of 'Jai Anusandhan' for the fulfilment of these resolutions," Modi said.
PM Modi also underlined the shared trajectory of the success of the young innovators and the .success of the country in the next 25 years.
"Your innovative mindset will take India to the top in the next 25 years," he added.
PM Modi further said that today's young generations are offering fast and smart solutions to the various problems of the country.
Team Sangai was declared the winner in the Smart India Hackathon-2022 on the theme "Heritage and Culture" under AICTE-MIC Student Innovation in the hardware edition and received a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.
The team comprises Manikanta Wairokpam (team leader), Jangkhopao Haokip, Umchan Tuithung, Dicolsind Chungkham, Sweety Sinam, Pheiroijam Kebisana, all students of B Tech Civil Engineering who were mentored by Nongmaithem Anand, assistant professor and head of Department of Civil Engineering, MTU.
The Smart India Hackathon was held at the MIT ADT Pune Nodal Centre.
Team Builders' Squad were declared as the second runners-up on the theme "Disaster Management" under AICTE-MIC Student Innovation in the Hardware edition and got a cash prize of Rs 50,000.The team members are Banashree Laipubam (team leader), Tongbram Bidyapati Devi, Hijam Warjit Singh, Hirachand Nongmaithem, Soibam Yaiphabi and Konsam Lalit, all students of B Tech Civil Engineering who were mentored by Kosygin Leishangthem, assistant professor Department of Civil Engineering, and jimmy Laishram, assistant professor Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
It was held at IIT Roorkee Nodal Centre.
Team Praanidhi comprising Dr Thiyam Vrubanata (team leader), Thimtha Ruwndar, Chunriulung Malangmei, Kaduailung Riamei, Longjam Priyashwori Devi, Tanjan Loukham and Sarungbam Dinakanta competed in the Software edition SIH 2022 under problem statement "A web portal to manage and strengthen dairy infrastructure of dairy processors of the Cooperative and private dairy sector" on the theme Agriculture, FoodTech & Rural Develop ment, held at Koneru Lakshmaiah Education Foundation, Vijayawada Nodal Centre.
The team is composed of the students of MBA and B Tech course under the mentorship of Jimmy Laishram, assistant professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
Although the team could not bag any prize, reaching the Grand Finale is an achievement in itself, said Department of Civil Engineering, Manipur Technical University, in a press release.
