Imphal, August 03 2015:
Manipur Watch Initiative (MWI) on Monday expressed dissatisfaction over the alleged lacking of political will of the State Government in introducing Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) that can protect the interests of the indigenous people.
The Indian Constitution can be amended to fulfill the public demand for ILPS to safeguard themselves against unchecked influx of non-locals or migrants in the State, MWI convener Heikrujam Nabashyam told journalists at Manipur Press Club.
He added that the present demand for ILP is a political problem and not a Constitutional issue and hence the State Government as well as all political party leaders should initiate talks with national leaders at the political level to resolve it.
He criticized the Centre for maintaining stoic silence over the ILP issue in Manipur and asked the BJP Government headed by Narendra Modi whether it will allow happening of such intensified movement in other bigger states like Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
Nabashyam further said the people of Manipur are worried that the non-locals will swamp the indigenous people sooner or later and emphasized the imperative need of immediate passing of a law to protect the indigenous people.
