Awareness prog cum tree plantation

Chandel, April 03 2018:
A one day awareness program on "Natural Resource Management cum Tree plantation" was conducted at Community Conserved Area (CCA) of Oklu village, Chandel District.
Organized by NERCORMP Chandel, more than 100 villagers including Chiefs, NaRM-G & SHG leaders of Okhlu, Anal Khullen, Lamphou Charu, Phiran Khullen and Phiran Leihou villages of Greenhills area of Chandel district participated in the program.
The program started with welcome address by Oklu chief Sanajaoba Khuraijam, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Chandel District while Lily Rose Jajo, District Project Director, NERCORMP Chandel and Rahul Ashem, Project Scientist, State Climate Change Cell, Manipur were present as chief guest, guest of honour and resource person respectively.
Chief guest of the program Sanajaoba stressed on the importance of conserving and sustaining natural resources with special focus on preservation of trees.
Lily Rose Jajo appreciated the Okhlu village for declaring the catchment area as a community conserved area and also urged the remaining villages to replicate the good work of Oklu in their respective villages.
Resource person Rahul Ashem elaborated on the importance of afforestation and climate change.
Later, the officials along with the villagers visited the Community Conserved Area and planted around 160 saplings of trees.
