'Irabot always fought for equality in society'

Lamyanba Irabot Ningsing Thouram Observation Committee (LINTOC) and Protection and Preservation Committee Manipur (PPCM) on Saturday jointly organised a public discussion programme at SEACO club, Yaiskul Janmasthan in connection with the month-long Irabot Day celebration.
President of Irabot Foundation Manipur and convener of LINTOC, Thounaojam Iboyaima, All Manipur Progressive Farmers Association and LINTOC co-convener Joy Nongmaithemcha and president of AMUCO and PPCM convener, Dr Y Mani Khuman attended the programme as presidium members while Professor of Sociology Department, MU, Dr Rajendro Kshetri, Professor of Economics Department, MU, Dr Chinglen Maisnam and Director of IGPA, Soibam Indrakumar as the special guests.
The function began with a pena song followed by paying floral tributes at the stone where Irabot had once sat and also at his photograph and observed a two-minutes silence as a mark of respect to the leader.
Giving the key note address, working president of Irabot Foundation Manipur, Kh Nishikanta said that September 21 is the day when Irabot stood against the formation of Purbanchal Pradesh which led him to go underground.
People need to discuss Irabot's principles and philosophy and the historic event of formation of the Red Guard Council which fought for bringing an equal society where there is no discrimination and suppression.
Thounaojam Iboyaima stated that Irabot was never a corrupt person and he always tried to bring equality in the society.
Dr Y Mani Khuman said that changes can be brought in Manipuri society by understanding Irabot's thinking, principles and ideology.
People have been observing the Irabot Day since the last 119 years, but still there is no one who has the characteristic of Irabot, added Mani Khuman.
