Ministers Phungzathang Tonsing, Govindas inspect Ukhrul hospital

Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing and Commerce & Industries Minister Konthoujam Govindas on Monday made a surprise visit to Ukhrul and inspected the construction of the new 50-bedded hospital and the prevailing condition at the present District Hospital.
On Monday afternoon, Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing and Commerce & Industries Minister Konthoujam Govindas inspected the construction work on the new 50-bedded district hospital and assured to make it partially operational by March 2014.The Ministerial team included Principal Secretary (Health) Sohail Ahktar and Health Director Tonsana among others.
The Health Minister admitted that the construction of new hospital building in all the hill districts was delayed due to delay on the part of the state government in releasing its share of fund.

A Ministerial team's visit today was a followed up of the inspection carried out by Governor Dr.Ashwani Kumar in September last.
During the inspection visit, Minister Tonsing was briefed by concerned department officials and issued instruction to take up necessary requirements for early completion of the centrally funded hospital construction.
The construction progress, it was informed, has been noted at 65 per cent only so far.
The Ministerial team also visited the District Hospital and inspected all the wards, besides operation theatre, labour room and CD4 testing room.
The Health Minister instructed the relevant officials to change the mattresses of the beds which are in pathetic and unhealthy condition.
He also interacted with the staff and extended moral support, while assuring necessary steps would be taken to improve the situation in district hospital.
Chief Medical Officer of Ukhrul Ngampam Raikhan made a particular mention of the hospital's inability to provide diet to the patients to which the Health Minister assured of looking into the matter.
In an interesting situation, Dr.Geeta Ranjan, a paediatric specialist whose posting is in Ukhrul District Hospital but never reported for duty here, was seen accompanying the Ministerial team during the inspection today.
