5th Sirarakhong Chilli Fest kicks off

As done in past years, a three-day 5th Sirarakhong Chilli Festival being organized jointly by Sirarakhong Haithel Promotion Committee; Sirarakhong Shanao Long and Sirarakhong NaRM-G began today at Sirarakhong village, Ukhrul district.
Around 220 families of Sirarakhong village are displaying various types of chilli planted at their farmlands in the festival for exhibition cum sale with each family producing 70-100 kilos.
Interacting with media persons, Tamsingphy Woleng, Sirarakhong Shanaolong who is also the general secretary of Sirarakhong Hathei Promotion Committee stated that farming is the main occupation for people of Sirarakhong village and asserted that a target has been set to make available chillis produced in Sirarakhong village known for its unique taste in different parts of the State and the country as well.

He said that concerted effort is being put in to organize the festival at State level by increasing production of chilli which in turn will bring laurels not only to the village but the State as a whole.
Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, Kh Nimaicharan, former teacher of Sirarakhong Government Middle English High School in 1952 and headmaster of Lamlong High School said that chilli produced in older times was enough only for the village but now the production has increased considerably to an extent that a festival could be organized specially on it which is highly commendable.
In connection with the festival, 'Hathei House' donated by Kh Nimaicharan who hails from Khurai Lamlong in the name of his late father Kh Ratankumar was presented to the village authority and organizers of the festival.
Ngathingyao Longvah, chairman of Sirarakhong village who is also the chairman of Sirarakhong Hathei Promotion Committee; V Wungkhayap Zimik, headman of Sirarakhong village; pastors; church leaders and several other personalities were also present during the inaugural function of the festival which was marked by performance of cultural dances and songs.
