UNC, others condemn Ukhrul blast

The United Naga Council (UNC), Naga Women's Union (NWU) and All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) have strongly condemned the bomb blast at Ukhrul town in the evening of September 17 that claimed two lives, Sosonao Tangva, d/o Wungpam and AS Dinah, former president of Tangkhul Shanao Long, both from Nungbi Khullen, a joint statement issued by the associations' publicity wings informed.
At this time of hard earned peace when the entire Naga people are in expectant hope for peaceful settlement of the Indo-Naga issue, any form of terrorism, be it by State or non State actor, is most condemnable, added the press statement.
The council, therefore, has appealed to every State and Non-State actors to refrain from perpetrating such inhuman acts or crimes against humanity.
The UNC, NWU and ANSAM also jointly extended its heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the bereaved family members.
It further wished speedy recovery of all others injured in the incident.
Meanwhile, the United NGOs Mission Manipur, UNMM has also expressed its strong condemnation of the Ukhrul blast yesterday that killed two innocent women and injured many others.
UNMM, in a statement issued by its secretary today extended its condolence to the departed souls and bereaved family members.
During the last couple of months, altogether seven persons have been killed in Ukhrul district alone.
UNMM appealed to all concerned, both State and non-State actors, to end such violence and further urged them to take the responsibility of protecting civilians.
UNMM also urged all the authorities concerned to provide compensation to the victims' families and establish an Independent Special Investigation Team, to investigate the incident at the earliest.
In the meantime, KOMREM Union, Manipur (NEI) and Bharatiya Janata Party, Manipur Pradesh (BJPMP) have also condemned the Ukhrul incident.
BJPMP, urging the Home Department to take necessary steps termed the incident a cowardly and senseless act.
The bodies appealed to the perpetrators not to repeat such attacks on civilians.
They further extended their condolence to the bereaved family members and injured persons.
