Imphal, January 17 2013:
Members of six Autonomous Councils (ADCs) today organized a sit-in to protest against Manipur Government's failure to meet their demands.
The demonstration was organized under the aegis of Autonomous District Council Coordinating Committee (ADCCC) at the District Council Bhavan here in Chingmeirong.
ADCCC secretary Henjathang Khongsai told reporters on the sidelines of the protest that the sit-in was staged as part of the series of agitations announced by the committee after the Government of Manipur failed to give positive response to its ultimatum.
He said the committee will approach the Central leaders over its demands if the state Government remains mum on it even after the proposed series of protests.
ADCCC has also decided to resign en masse in the event of the Government's failure to give a positive response at the earliest, he warned.
ADCCC is demanding to ensure the autonomy of the six ADCs, separate budget and separate heads for each ADCs, adequate devolution of power in respect of the Central sponsored schemes in the hill areas and adequate devolution of powers for 26 subjects provided under Section 29 (1) of the Manipur (Hill Areas0) District Councils (Third Amendment ) Act, 2008 .
