Candidates start filing nomination papers

With the a number of political parties having finalised the names of candidates for the upcoming election to the Autonomous District Council on June 1, candidates have started filing their nomination papers .
Four candidates of Sadar Hills ADC including one Congress candidate and three independent candidates filed their nomination papers today.
In Chandel A/C, one Congress candidate, one NPF candidate and 15 independent candidates have filed their nominations.
Meanwhile in Churachandpur, two Independent candidates have today filed their nomination papers for the ADC poll that was notified four days earlier, while the total number of nomination papers issued by five Returning Officers in Churachandpur have already touched 111, S Singlianmang Guite reports.
On day one of the three-day long nomination window, T Thangpu (Independent) along with another Independent candidate Thiankhanlian filed their papers for 23/60 Muallum and 22/58 Haopi Range DCCs respectively .
23/60 Muallum under Singngat sub-division has seen the maximum number of people seeking nomination papers with 11 while in 13/58 Kholmun, Khaipao Haokip is the lone applicant so far.
If no other nominations are filed by Wednesday, the last day for filing nomination papers, Haokip will be among the first to confirm his seat.
With the nomination window already over for the first day, chances are high that he may remain unchallenged.
Data provided by five Returning Officers in Churachandpur showed that nine people have filed nomination papers for the three seats of Henglep sub-division - 5 from Chongkhozou, 2 from Henglep and 2 from Leimatak.
In Tipaimukh sub-division, three candidates each have obtained nomination papers for Parbung and Vangai DCCs while in Senvon the number stands at 4 .
In Thanlon sub-division, three candidates each came for nomination papers to contest the ADC election in Ngazam and Thanlon DCCs.
Altogether, three candidates took nomination papers for Tuivai DCCs, the seat of former Chairman Langkhanpau Guite.
Lungthul in Singngat sub-division has 5 candidates seeking nomination papers, Muallum has 11 and Singngat DCC has 6 .
In Churachandpur sub-division, 55 nomination papers were issued for 12 seats - 4 in Khousabung, 6 in Lanva, 1 in Kholmun, 4 in Tuibuang, 6 in Hiangtam Lamka, 6 in New Lamka West, 5 in New Lamka East, 8 in Zenhang Lamka, 2 in Saikot, 3 in Sagang, 2 in Sangaikot and 8 in Haopi Range.
If today's figure is any indication of the list for nominations, straight fights will be witnessed in at least 4 seats but it is still premature to draw any conclusion as the nomination window remains opened for another two days and withdrawal dates still far away.
