Imphal, August 26 2024:
There are around 130 petroleum retail outlets (fuel pumps) in the valley districts of the state but petrol is being supplied to only around 35 retail outlets regardless of exhaustion of stock of all the fuel stations, stated Manipur Petroleum Dealers' Fraternity and justified display of 'Petrol Nil' signboard at the remaining fuel pumps.
A functionary of the Dealers' Fraternity told The People's Chronicle that CAF & PD department issued a notification for specific supply of petroleum products to fuel pumps after petroleum tankers could not reach the state due to landslides, incessant rains and bandh obstruction movement along the national highways for several days.
On the request of the fraternity, the department also took up steps against unauthorised sale of petroleum products.
However, all the 130 fuel pumps in the valley exhausted their petrol stock very recently due to panic buying by public though diesel is still being sold.
Majority of the non-IOCL retail outlets which do not have depot in the state too have depleted petrol stock.
According to functionary of the fraternity, there is no closure of fuel pumps as diesel is being sold.
When the oil depot at Malom allocates petrol to all the retail outlets, it is considered normal but the depot is now supplying petrol to only around 35 fuel pumps and hence the remaining fuel pumps numbering around 90 have to put up 'Petrol Nil' sign board.
Misunderstanding among public for 'Petrol Nil' signboard at retail outlets will be solved when petrol is supplied to all the fuel pumps at once.
Petrol stock at IOCL retail outlet can be checked anytime as fuel control system at present is high-tech, the functionary said while opining that the people would purchase petrol without any suspicions if Stock at Malom depot is made known to public sincerely.
