EEVFAM vows to pressure authorities to hasten probe

Imphal, July 11 2018: Extrajudicial Execution Victims Families' Association, Manipur (EEVFAM) observed its 9th foundation day at Manipur Press club today.

Families of the victims, who were allegedly killed in numerous fake encounter cases, paid floral to the photos of the victims and observed two minutes silence in honour of the departed souls.

Speaking to media persons, EEVFAM president Renu Takhellambam stated that the association, which was set up in July 9, 2009, has filed a PIL to the Supreme Court for 1528 victims who lost their lives in the extra judicial killings and a case is underway.

After the Supreme Court directed the CBI to form an SIT to investigate 45 fake encounter cases, investigation on some cases have begun, she said.

Unfortunately, none of the cases, directed by the Supreme Court, have been solved till date, she claimed.

",'As per information received by EEVFAM, CBI had stated on July 2 that investigation of four cases have been completed so far The case taken up by the CBI also include six other cases of Santosh Hegde Commission, EEVFAM president said, -but the slow process of investigation has disappointed the family members of the victims.

Asking if there is any hidden agenda behind the slow investigation process, she further questioned why the investigation is taking too much time in finding out the truth.

Renu further said that the association along with the victims families will deliberate on further steps or actions to hasten the investigation process.

As part of the observation, an open discussion on 'Present case and future prospects' moderated by Manipur University Professor, Soyam Lokendrajit was also held.

Advocate Basantakumar Wareppa also gave the present status of investigation of extra judicial killings filed through EEVFAM.
