Incompetent policy-making hurting citizens: India Bloc

Imphal, May 03 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh's incompetency in policy-making is not only creating difficulties for the people of Manipur due to the one-year long conflict but affecting citizens all over the country, claimed Indian National Development Inclusive Alliance (India) Bloc Manipur convenor and CPI (M) Manipur State Council secretary Ksh Shanta.

Addressing a press meet of India Bloc Manipur at the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) office on Friday, Shanta said that the violence which began on May 3 last year and left many dead and injured, is due to failure of various policy programmes of the leaders of the state government.

The leaders, instead of fostering loving relationships between the people and discussing the best ways to better the economy, have been spewing BJP's communal and religion polarisation ideologies.

In Manipur's context, the policy of mistrust and enmity between valley and the hills has taken effect, all so that BJP and NDA can continue to hold on to power.

However, the citizens can no longer be fooled or manipulated by such tactics, he said, while expressing that a new government will see to the restoration of peace in Manipur.

MPCC working president Kh Devabrata said that the conflict in Manipur could have been avoided had both the central and state governments looked into and acted in timely manner.

However, the divisive agenda of the double engine BJP government led to the conflict, which has now completed a year.

He continued that although many SITs have been formed, no action has been taken up against those who abetted the violence.

Apart from these, despite affirmations that the conflict is being orchestrated by illegal immigrants and narco-terrorists, no action has been taken to deport or drive them away.

The promise by union home minister Amit Shah to implement NRC remains unfulfilled.

In short, the government has been deceiving the people with hidden polices and allowing the mayhem to continue in the state, he remarked.

Chipping in, All India Trinamool Congress, Manipur State convenor Dr Th Inaocha lamented that in-spite of the government deploying thousands of central paramilitary forces, the conflict has been raging for a year with no solution in sight.

Both the central and state governments are "supporting" Kuki outfits under SoO, who are openly involved in the conflict, while "providing" ammunition to village volunteers and proscribed outfits, so as to promote more hatred and killing amongst ourselves, he alleged, while claiming that it is evident by the fact that the centre is yet to take any action against the 10 separatist Kuld MLAs who violated the Constitution.

Mentioning the confrontations between mothers and central paramilitary forces due to the latter taking action against village volunteers, Dr Th Inaocha said that the forces are working under the orders of the central and state governments.

Thus, time has come for the people to demand the MLAs and ministers to take a firm stand to save Manipur, he stressed, while observing that the MLAs and ministers are yet to declare any firm decision to bring a political solution to the yearlong violence.

Furthermore, the MLAs and ministers have not done anything to unite the different communities in the state so as to solve the conflict.

The present situation in Manipur is only heightening the chances of either a civil war or imposition of the President's rule.

The responsibility of all of these lies on the central and state BJP governments, he remarked, while urging the BJP government to bring on board representatives of all communities and bring an end to the conflict for the sake of the future generations and the state itself.
