CPI (ML) Gen Secy meets Irom Sharmila, endorses AFSPA repeal & ILP implementation

General Secretary of Central Committee, Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist), KN Ramachandran today met with Irom Sharmila who has been on fast for the last 14 years demanding repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 from the State.
Addressing a press meet at the office of CPI (ML) Manipur State Committee following his meeting with the Iron Lady, Ramachandran said that he held talks with Sharmila for around 20 minutes during which the Iron Lady reiterated that she would not cease her stir until the draconian AFSPA is repealed from the State.
He asserted that whole people of the State should extend full support to the non-violence movement launched by Sharmila given that the act under which many people have been killed in the name of counter insurgency is no more needed in the State.

Alleging that both the Congress and BJP which only favor corporate and businessmen have apparently failed to address outstanding issues pertaining to the country particularly price rise and unemployment, he called upon the people to put in concerted efforts to overthrow government which works against the wishes of the people.
A massive meeting of CPI (ML) would be held at Lucknow soon with the goal to strengthen democratic and socialism movement of the people, he added.
Contending that the act of government favoring only corporate and influential persons would have adverse affects on public mainly workers and farmers, he said that it high time for people to revolt against such unwarranted acts of the government.
The CPI (ML) fully endorsed the ongoing collective demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State as it is the only means to safeguard existence of the indigenous people from the unchecked influx of outsiders, he exclaimed.
Several leaders of CPI (ML) Manipur State Committee were also present during the meet.
