FCI Regional Office to be opened in State soon: KV Thomas

Prof KV Thomas, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has informed that a regional office of Food Corporation of India (FCI) would be opened in the State soon.
The Union Minister arrived here on a two-day visit to Manipur this afternoon.
An official team headed by CAF & PD Minister M Okendro welcomed the minister on his arrival at the Imphal Tulihal Airport at 1:40 pm.
Talking to media at the airport, Thomas said that Chief Minister of the State O Ibobi Singh has been urging Central Government for opening a regional office of FCI in Manipur.
Accordingly, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has instructed the concerned officials for opening a FCI Regional Office in the State at the earliest.
When asked when the National Food Security Act would be implemented in the State, KV Thomas replied, "I expect the Food Act will be able to fully implement in the North Eastern states of India by February or March next year because all preparations have been made for this" .
Thomas told reporters that during his visit he would inaugurate a 5, 000 ton capacity FCI godown at Senapati district's Mayangkhang tomorrow, apart from reviewing the necessity for implementing Food Security Act in the state.
Meanwhile, a meeting of State Cabinet convened at the Conference Hall of CM's Secretariat today evening has reportedly discussed threadbare on the opening of FCI Regional Office and implementation of National Food Security Bill in the State.
