Mother of rape survivor appeals for swift action against accused

The mother of a rape survivor (a minor) has appealed to the authorities concerned and the people to help bring justice to her daughter by denying bail to the accused as well as submitting a charge sheet at the earliest.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, the mother of the rape survivor (who has been admitted to Thoubal District Hospital since May 22) said that even though the accused, Thokchom Sanjoy (37) was picked up and is currently lodged in jail, she is scared that he might harm her and her family if he is released.
She claimed that after her daughter was raped by the accused in the afternoon of May IS and she has been admitted to the hospital and she (the victim) has not been able to sleep nor eat due to the trauma and the injuries she suffered.
Alleging that while being arrested by the police Sanjoy threatened to kill her family when he gets out of jail, the mother appealed, to the authority concerned not to release accused on bail and also appealed to the police to file a charge sheet at the earliest and take up necessary action against the accused.
It may be mentioned that Thokchom Sanjoy (39) s/o Shyamkumar Singh of Thoudam Leirak Achouba, under Thoubal PS, was arrested by police in connection with the rape of the minor victim and remanded to judicial custody by District and Session Judge Thoubal.
On the other hand, secretary of Women Action For Development Sobita Mangsatabam condemned the heinous crime and added that a detailed examination of the victim is needed as she has developed an infection due to the incident and she has not been able to sleep or eat properly.
Sobita also urged the authority concerned to provide psychological, physical and legal aid to the victim and her family members.
