Chandel, May 31 2018:
Chandel Naga People's Organisations (CNPO), a conglomerate of bodies, on Thursday reiterated the stand and claim of the Maring Napuiya Yinglam, Chairmen Association of Machi Block, All Laiching Napui Yinglam and All Laiching Village Authority Action Committee that the arrest of Lamthaka Mothil by the Kakching Police was based on unfounded and distorted facts devised to cover up an 'immoral act' of a fellow "policeman".
The Kakching Police had claimed that they have arrested 'one member of a gang', identified as Lamtaka Mothil, after a brief exchange of fire from both sides on May 26.Organisations and village authority of Laiching village on the other hand had claimed that Lamthaka Mothil was framed by the police.
The organisation and authorities had claimed that they caught one person red handed in a "compromising position" with a girl in a secluded area near the village and a fine was imposed on the person.
Lamthaka Mothil was sent to collect the fine imposed from the person on the request of the later when Mothil was arrested and beaten.
CNPO in its statement Thursday alleged that there were no exchange of fire on the day of the arrest.
The police had fired several rounds in the air to 'mentally scare' the people of the Laiching Khuman village and seized from the village the three weapons the Police claimed belong to gang members.
Further accusing the Kakching Police of crossing over the jurisdiction of 'Machi Sub-Division Police', CNPO appealed the State Government that it should take up strong actions against the personnel involved for the violation and charge framed against an 'innocent citizen'.
In a later development, one Elangbam Raju (28) s/o E Rajen of Hiyanglam Mayai Leikai has claimed that the person the villagers claim to have caught with a girl was him and not L Rajiv, the head constable of CDO Thoubal.
Identifying himself as the person who was caught by the members of the village authorities, Raju refuted the claim of the villagers that they were caught in a "compromising position".
E Raju made the claim before the media at Manipur Press Club late on Thursday.
Head Constable of Thoubal CDO Rajiv who was also present at the press club denied the allegation of the Laiching village authorities and claimed that he was on duty at Kakching at the time of the incident.
Terming the allegation of the village authorities as unfortunate, he said that he had nothing to do with the incident.
