Imphal, November 27 2024:
A combined team of Kangpokpi district police and CRPF numbering over 150 personnel, led by Kangpokpi additional SP carried out poppy destruction drive on Tuesday in the hill range west of Makhan village in Saitu sub-division in the presence of a representative of district magistrate.
The team destroyed illegal poppy plants found growing in around 12 acres of land.
An FIR has registered at Sapermeina police station for further investigation, and identify and book the poppy cultivators.
Mention may be made that an earlier attempt by district police and volunteers of Makhan village to destroy the same poppy plantations proved futile due to alleged resistance by armed Kuki militants confronted.
Meanwhile, chief minister N Biren has praised the efforts of Kangpokpi police, CRPF, and district administration for successfully carrying out the poppy destruction drive near Makhan village in Kangpokpi district.

Let it be clear to those attempting to exploit the situation to expand poppy cultivation: the state and central governments are closely monitoring their activities, and we remain unwavering in our commitment to eradicate every last poppy plant," wrote CM Biren in a social media post.
He made it clear that the authorities are committed to eradicating every last poppy plant from the state.
