State women trained on fragrance formulation

Hindu College, University of Delhi, has launched a pioneering skill training programme in Fragrance Formulations for Wellness Products, aimed at empowering women from Manipur.
This initiative, supported by the government of Manipur and organised, in collaboration with Ultra International Ltd and CSIR-CIMAP, Lucknow, under the mentorship of the Supreme Court appointed Committee headed by Justice Gita Mittal, seeks to equip 30 women, including 15 internally displaced persons (IDPs) from relief camps, with specialised skills in the fragrance industry.
According to a statement issued by staff officer to chief secretary, Mercina R Panmei, the intensive 3-week training programme encompasses theoretical sessions, special lectures, hands-on practical sessions, industrial visits, and excursions.
It is designed to provide the participants with comprehensive knowledge and practical experience necessary for developing and commercially selling wellness products, thereby enhancing their livelihood opportunities.
The inauguration ceremony of the programme was attended by chief secretary Dr Vineet Joshi as the chief guest and staff officer to the CS, Mercina Panmei as the guest of honour.
Hindu College vice-principal Prof Reena Jain delivered the opening remarks, highlighting the significance of skill training in fragrance formulations for the wellness industry.
Principal Prof Anju Srivastava welcomed the participants and emphasised the institution's commitment to women empowerment through skill development initiatives.
Dr Vineet Joshi, in his address, underscored the importance of the training programme in providing a unique opportunity for Manipuri women to acquire valuable skills and achieve self-sufficiency.
He encouraged the participants to make the most of this training to secure a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
The hands-on training component will include practical exercises such as essential oil extraction from lime/orange peel, oil extraction from clove buds, soap making, and preparation of talcum powder, shampoo, and hand sanitizer.
Upon completion of their training at Hindu College, the participants will receive further skill enhancement through collaboration with the MSME Technology Centre in Imphal, which offers advanced facilities for production and testing.
The initiative also aims to integrate the products made by these skilled women into government procurement processes.
The Manipur State Rural Livelihood Mission (MSRLM) and Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd (MHHDC) will oversee the procurement and distribution of these products, supporting livelihood opportunities for residents of relief camps.
This collaborative effort between Hindu College, Government of Manipur, and industry partners was taken up as a proactive step towards socio-economic empowerment through skill development and sustainable livelihood practices, the statement added.
