Man held for attacking on-duty BSF soldier

Imphal, June 15 2024:
A man has been arrested for trying to attack a Border Security Force (BSF) personnel on picketing duty along Manipur River Bank under Sugnu Police Station, with a Kukri on Saturday.
The arrested man has been identified as Meisnam Manihal (22) s/o Ingocha of Wapokpi Chingol Leikai.
According to reports culled from the spot, at around 8am on .Saturday, ASISunil Kumar and Constable Barkat Ali of 131 Battalion BSF Adhoc A Company were on picketing during along Manipur River Bank at Awang Leikai Koubok under Sugnu PS, when a cyclist came riding from the direction of Wapokpi Chingol Leikai.
The cyclist, Manihal parked the cycle near the BSF bunker and washed his hands in the water gathered in a pothole.
He then suddenly took out a Kukri and charged towards Sunil Kumar in an attempt to stab the latter and steal his weapon.
Sunil Kumar, however, managed to grab Manihal's hand and a scuffle ensued.
On witnessing the attack, Constable Barkat Ali, who was standing nearby, rushed in to save Sunil Kumar.
Upon seeing Ali, Manihal pushed Sunil Kumar away and fled from the scene.
After being informed by Sunil Kumar of the incident, a team led by the Company commander swiftly arrived and pursued the attacker.
Manihal was later apprehended along with the Kukri at just a kilometre away from the scene of the incident.
Both Manihal and the weapon have been handed over to Sugnu PS for further legal action.
