UNC's ultimatum to Delhi Deadline set on Jun 30

Imphal, June 17 2011: The United Naga Council (UNC) has sent an ultimatum to the Union Home Ministry that they would withdraw for good from the tripartite talk if the same talk involving the UNC, Government of Manipur and the Union Home Ministry is not resumed by June 30 .

The State Cabinet had earlier taken a decision and persuaded the Home Minister to put off the second round of tripartite talk indefinitely which was earlier scheduled on May 30 following the UNC's failure to inform the State Government what exactly were their demands/purposes/agenda one week before the scheduled meeting.

After the UNC had declared that it has severed all ties with the State Government which was followed by submission of a memorandum to the Prime Minister demanding an alternative arrangement for Nagas of Manipur, officials of the State Government and Ministry of Home Affairs have held meetings twice.

It is reported that the State Government's demand to know what exactly are the UNC's agenda for the talk has not been responded to either by the UNC or the Ministry of Home Affairs.

In view of the deadline set by the UNC, the State Government may take a decision by Monday.

The UNC's deadline was conveyed to the State Government by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Notably, arrangements were already in place for the second round of tripartite talk with IPR Minister TN Haokip, Education Minister DD Thaisii and IPR Minister TN Haokip, Education Minister DD Thaisii and IFC Minister N Biren representing the State Government and Internal Security Secretary UK Bansal representing the State.

However, the scheduled meeting was aborted/put off.

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has clarified that the the talk was between the UNC and the State Government whereas the Home Ministry officials were present at the meeting as observers.

The Chief Minister has also categorically stated that the State Government would never accede to the demand for alternative arrangement nor the ADC elections held under the principles and norms of democracy can ever be declared null and void.

Notably, the Home Ministry has already expressed appreciation of the State Government for successfully holding the ADC elections.
