Imphal, October 13 2014:
Reacting to Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang's statement on ineffectiveness of Inner Line Permit (ILP) System in Nagaland, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has said that it is not the ineffectiveness of ILP, but the inefficiency of Nagaland Government which has made the system toothless.
According to a statement of JCILPS, the statement of Nagaland CM Zeliang was very unfortunate as it happened to discourage the ongoing ILP movement in Manipur and Meghalaya.
The Nagaland Government should take up necessary steps to revamp the ILP System instead of blaming Assam for heavy influx of migrants to the state.
It is a known fact that Assam is already flooded with Bangladeshi Muslims and they are spreading out to other north-eastern states too.
The issue of illegal migrants in Assam cannot be tackled as it does not have the necessary ILP System, but Nagaland still fails to check growing influx of migrants despite of having restrictions imposed on non-local visitors under the provisions of Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873.Notably, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh have been implementing the ILP System effectively by making it compulsory for every non-local Indian citizen to take an official permit for entering these two states, the statement said.
In the context of Manipur, migrants from Bangladesh and Nepal are also entering into the State through Assam and Nagaland.
The demography of the whole Northeast has been changed drastically due to the unrestraint influx of migrants.
So, the Government of Manipur should not waste much time in putting the ILP System into practice and save the indigenous people of the State, the JCILPS said.
Meanwhile, the volunteers of Joint Committee on Non-Manipuri Survey conducted verification drive of non-locals at Wangkhei Ayangpali in Imphal East today as part of the ongoing ILP movement under the aegis of JCILPS.
During the drive, a Bengali man, who has married a local Brahmin woman, was found enrolled in the electoral roll under Kshetrigao A/C .
Another Bengali man was also found to have applied to the local club and Meira Paibi for conversion to Meitei.
