Sincerity among representatives will help in success of government schemes: Gaikhangam

'The people of rural areas have apparently lost their enthusiasm to work sincerely with the coming of MGNREGS, as the job card holders anticipate wages by just showing up their presence at the work site'.
This was stated by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam while speaking at the inauguration of the two-day workshop on 'Role of Media to strengthen the Panchayati Raj institutions in Manipur' at Hotel Classic here today.
Speaking as chief guest during the inaugural function of the workshop, Gaikhangam said most of the people in Manipur are unaware of the basic rights and amenities and as such, various government sponsored schemes from both the state as well as the centre cannot reach the majority of the people.
Government schemes are implemented for the welfare of the people, but due to ignorance, lack of knowledge or due to lack of sincerity among the elected members or representatives, the benefits have not been successfully reached, he added.
Observing that in order for the society to be termed a healthy one, the people need to be fully aware of their rights and facilities, he also appealed to the government officials and elected members to work sincerely and selflessly for the common people.
He also said that if the people's representatives are not sincere enough in their responsibilities, then, it will be very hard to successfully implement the schemes that have been adopted by the government for the welfare of the people.
Gaikhangam then pointed out that under the schemes implemented by the government; even 70% has not been achieved yet.
Organised by All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) under the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department, Government of Manipur, the workshop was graced by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam and president of AMWJU Wangkhemcha Syamjai as chief guest and president respectively, while J..CRamthanga, IAS, principal secretary, RD and PR, government of Manipur attended the programme as guest of honour.
Md.Abdul Latif, vice-president, Manipur State Panchayat Parishad, Porompat and Prof..NMohendro, former member, Steering Committee NER, Vision 2020 were also present as special guests of the workshop.
Giving the presidential speech at the occasion, president of AMWJU, W.Shamjai asserted that media has neither enemy nor friends.
The media is a tool through which both the deeds of government or society are reflected.
He also said that media plays an important role in developing the Panchayati Raj.
.J.CRamthanga, IAS, principal secretary, RD and PR, government of Manipur said that Panchayati Raj is divided into two levels, which are District Level PR and Village Level PR.
There is one Zilla Parishad each in four valley districts, under which are 161 Gram Panchayats.
The number of Gram Panchayats are 56 in Imphal East district, 39 in Imphal West district, 42 in Thoubal district and 24 in Bishnupur district.
The programme was also attended by Md.Abdul Latif, vice-president, Manipur State Panchayat Parishad, Porompat and Prof..NMohendro, former member, Steering Committee NER, Vision 2020, Donor, government of India as special guests.
