Justice (Retired) PG Agarwal's Commission of Inquiry today summoned the then Officer-in Charge of the Bazar Unit of Imphal west police commandos, who was among the nine police personnel charge-sheeted by CBI in the July 23, 2009 Khwairamband Bazar shooting and the then additional SP, in-charge of police commando to appear before the commission in the next hearing.
The sitting of the one-man commission, looking into the facts and circumstances leading to the firing incident in which Ch Sanjit and Th Rabina were killed and which also injured five others, was held today at Hotel Imphal.
The Commission opened the sealed envelope of the report of the finding of the examination to forensic experts of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory, New Delhi including photographs and postmortem examinations of the victims of the July 2009 incident.
The commission ruled that it will go through the report and also conduct a cross-examination of senior scientific officer before taking a decision on the report.
The commission has also received documents from the CBI, which includes a copy of the 23 page chargesheet and 472 pages of documents backing the chargesheet, Justice Agarwal announced during the hearing.
Observing that in view of the report from the CFSL, the Commission needed to examine of Devendra Singh, the then Officer in-charge of the Imphal west police commandos, Bazar Unit and Ak Jhalajit, the then additional superintendent of police in-charge of commandos and summoned them to appear before the commission on the next hearing.
The commission fixed the next sitting on October 27 at 10.30 am.
Meanwhile, in reply to a question raised by reporters after the sitting, Justice (retired) PA Agarwal said that as they have received the report from the CFSL and the CBI chargesheet with regard to the incident, the inquiry of the commission will be sped up and is likely to conclude at an early date.
However, he refused to say when the report of the Commission will be submitted to the government.
