CNPO tours remote Chandel villages

Chandel, February 23 2014 : As goodwill mission and to collect firsthand account of the basic infrastructure existing in the area and to understand the reality of people's lifestyle in the remote areas, President of Chandel Naga People's Organization (CNPO), Ws Kanral Anal along with members of Sulam Area Chiefs' Association (SASA) on February 22 took out an expedition to Sulam Area, an integral part of Chandel district.

The visiting team started off New Samtal 0-point at Chahmol Village in Tengnoupal and went on to cover Angbrashu, Larong Khunou, Larong Khullen, Darchol, Vomku, Challong, Thumtam, Paraolon and Kotal Khuntak villages where the CNPO President interacted with the villagers.

During the stop over at Angbrashu, the team met Officials of the BRO to take stock of the progress in construction of New Samtal road.

There, CNPO President requested the BRO officials to instruct their men at work to maintain quality of the work.

Talking to media, later, the CNPO, however, expressed satisfaction over the work being executed.

Villagers at Angbrashu narrated the difficulties they faced in trying to drinking water and informed that they had to walk for 2 km to fetch water from a small stream.

At Larong khullen, the Team inspected the buildings of Primary Health Sub Centre and Larong Govt High School which was constructed and completed by MDS under RMSA.

Chief of the Village Ts Kanlun, who is also the Secretary of SASA disclosed that in spite of PHSC building completed, the concerned authority has not yet inaugurated it for public use till date.

The PHSC also has no no doctor or nurse.

The Chief further informed that even though SMDC wanted to start functioning of the school from the current academic session, the concerned authority failed to release the bill for construction of the school building, thus leading to closure of the school building by the contractor.

He also disclosed that BSNL tower erected in the village is not functioning and boys' hostel constructed under MSDP has been left incomplete.

At Larong Khullen, Darchol, Vomku and Challong, the touring team came across that the villagers enjoy water supply from a Scheme under PHED Chandel division.

However, frequent leakage of the water supply pipe has been a cause for frustration to the villagers.

At Challong, the villagers narrated the challenge they have to face from recurring landslides along the main village road during the rainy season.

The Chief of Paraolon Sk Warshing, who is also the Chairman of SASA, said the village has no school building after it was collapsed in 2013 in a storm and PHSC building, though completed is yet to be inaugurated.

When the team reached Khungyon, an oldest village of Moyon Naga tribe, the team came to know that the problem of lack of proper drinking water, bad road and communication faced by the villagers is no different.

There is also no Community Hall in the village.
