Senapati records highest rainfall of 12.7 mm

Imphal, March 19 2023:
The state witnessed widespread rainfall in the last 24 hours bringing some respite from the dry spell, which has led to severe water crisis in different parts of the state.
According to weather report released by directorate of environment and climate change, the state recorded widespread rainfall in the last 24 hours, from Saturday 6 pm to Sunday 6 pm.
During this period, Senapati district recorded the highest rainfall at 12.7 mm followed by Ukhrul district at 7.2 mm.
Rainfall amount recorded in other districts are 6.2 mm in Imphal East, 5 mm in Imphal West, 5.6 mm in Noney, 5.6 mm in Tamenglong, 5.2 mm in Tengnoupal, 2 mm each in Churachandpur and Kakching districts.
The average rainfall recorded in the state in the last 24 hours is 5.63 mm.
The report further informed that there was little rainfall activity on Saturday while some districts witnessed no rainfall at all.
The average rainfall on Saturday was 0.26 mm.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), widespread to light rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Northeast India till March 20 .
"Isolated heavy rainfalls are very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya during 19th-22nd and over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during 20th-22nd March.
Isolated very heavy rainfall is also likely over Assam & Meghalaya during 19th-20th March," the weather forecast of IMD said.
