Congress urges immediate intervention in Jiribam unrest

The Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) held a meeting at Congress Bhawan, Imphal, under the chairmanship of MPCC president K Meghachandra, on Saturday.
The meeting primarily focused on addressing the ongoing turmoil in Jiribam district, which has persisted since June 6.In a statement, MPCC informed that after thorough deliberation, the PAC passed resolutions urging both the Central and state governments to swiftly intervene and bring the situation under control.
The committee emphasised the immediate need to safeguard the lives and properties of the general public in the district.
It called for the effective utilisation of Central and state security forces deployed in the district, adhering to their responsibilities as outlined in relevant Acts and Rules, to restore peace and harmony.
Furthermore, the PAC appealed to the authorities to uphold constitutional provisions and exercise the powers and duties vested in the state government to restore normalcy in Manipur.
During the meeting, MP elect Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam was inducted as a member of the PAC, with immediate effect.
This decision follows the earlier appointment of MP elect Alfred Kanngam S Arthur as a member of the committee.
Key attendees at the PAC meeting included former CM and CLP leader O Ibobi, CWC member Gaikhangam, deputy CLP leader K Ranjit, MLA Th Lokeshwar, along with several other prominent members and leaders of MPCC.
