DM to probe OBC certificate for MU appointment

In a significant judgment, the Manipur High Court has directed the District Magistrate (DM), Imphal West to probe the genuineness of the OBC certificate used for appointment of a lecturer in the Department of Hindi, Manipur University.
In a press mote, Dr Th Surendra Singh, a former Guest Lecturer in the Department of Hindi who is also the petitioner in the case said the writ petition under W.P.(C) No.985 of 2014, had its hearing on April 22, 2015 before Justice Kh Nobin Singh, for consideration of interim prayer for revocation of a Manipur University's order for appointment of the lecturer, on the ground that the OBC certificate used for the appointment was false/fake.
The listed respondents are Manipur University represented by the Registrar and Dr E Vijaylakshmi who was appointed against the vacancy of OBC category and that the OBC certificate used for the appointment would be false/fake in terms of the OBC laws enacted by the Government of India as she is the daughter of a retired Director of Education (U) who even functioned as Chairman of the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BoSEM).
The court has directed the DM to examine the genuiness of the OBC certificate taking into account the documents produced by the petioner and the laws governing the issuance of OBC certificate and to submit a report thereof to the court within a period of three weeks.
The petitioner was represented by M Rarry, advocate while Manipur University (Respondent No.1) and Dr E Vijaylaksmi (Respondent No.2) were represented by advocates BP Sahu and Amarjit Naorem respectively.
