Imphal, April 29 2015 :
Strongly condemning Major Vinod of 25 Assam Rifles for his reported unruly conduct shown to Customs Officer Gaikhonlung Panmei, Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) has urged Chief Minister Okram Ibobi to rein in the conduct of the jawans of the AR unit and take appropriate action against the AR officer.
In a statement, ZYF said that such unruly conduct is unbecoming for an AR officer whose primary duty is to protect and safeguard the life of the citizens.
As such, he must be booked under the relevant sections of law of the land, the statement said.
Three labourers, who are engaged in bridge and road construction, were abducted from their work site located near 25 AR post.
However, the commander and jawans of the AR unit had not done anything to secure the release of the labourers although the abductors kept the labourers at their captive for several days, the ZYF alleged.
On the otherhand, the Major and his jawans had displayed their 'trained' skills in harassing the Government officer, who was on an official duty, the statement said and added that the incident was the manifestation of lack of discipline and total disregard of an officer belonging to the tribal community.
The statement further said that there have been reports of this AR outpost located on IT road meting out harassment to the people travelling on the road in the name of frisking.
Assam Rifles posts located in different parts of Tamenglong district often commit excessive acts without sparing even the Government officials belonging to Zeliangrong community, the statement said.
