New criminal laws will facilitate better trial procedure: CJ Mridul

High Court of Manipur Chief Justice Siddharth Mridul has said that India's new criminal laws Bharatiya Nyaya San-hita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) will facilitate better trial procedure from previous trial processes.
Speaking during the inaugural function of a two-day Orientation Programme on New Criminal Laws organised by Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) and Departmeht of Law & Legislative Affairs at City Convention Centre, Palace Compound on Saturday, Chief Justice Siddharth Mridul said that the new criminal laws have been enacted to ensure improved conduct of investigation, trial and delivery of justice.
He continued that if the new criminal laws are rightly implemented then it will allow society to properly respond to future challenges along with promoting justice and community well-being.
Hence, investigating officers, prosecutors and trial court judges should work under the framework of the new criminal laws to ensure justice.
All stakeholders should also deliberate on the new laws and see to it that the public receive inclusive justice, he emphasised.
Mentioning that as the new laws will protect and support victims ofcrime, the Chief Justice stated that the programme has been organised to ensure all stakeholders attain a sound knowledge on the three new laws.
The opening function of the programme was also attended by High Court of Manipur Judge Justice A Guneshwar, Justice Golmei Gaiphulsillu, additional chief secretary MH Khan and DGP Manipur Rajiv Singh as presidium members along with advocates, police officers and top officials of law.
Later, a technical session on BNS, BNSS and BSA was held which was participated by various resource persons.
