Imphal, May 03 2024:
Maintaining that violence and retribution cannot bring solution to the current crisis in the state, Imphal Naga Forum (INF) secretary AS Hungpro Shimray has stressed the need for walking the path of peace and reconciliation in order to resolve the conflict.
He made the remark at the anniversary observance of the Manipur crisis organised by Taragi Cheishu under the name 'Peace and Solidarity with the Victims of the Crisis', at the office of Taragi Cheishu at Porompat, on Friday.
He expressed pain in observing the day as it brings back memories of all those violence and horrific ordeal the people faced.
Stating that the crisis could have been resolved swiftly, Hungpro pointed out that there had been similar conflicts in different countries which did not take long to resolve with the intervention of the United Nations.
The protraction of the violence for a whole year is not only causing untold hardships to the people but has also tarnished the image of the state.
In such situation, all stakeholders should understand that continuing the violence will not bring anything good and walk the path of peace and reconciliation instead, he contended.
Taragi Cheishu advisor Aribam Syam Sharma, chairman Khaidem Mani and several leaders of the organisation attended the event, which also had a discussion session exploring the ways to resolve the crisis and restore peace and normalcy in the state.
