Imphal, April 30 2009: A GIRL who stole recharge cards, mobile phones and gold on instruction of a gang was caught and handed over to volunteers of DESAM today.

Two mobile handsets one of which is Motorola 6168 and one Nokia 1600, a gold coated bangle and a lady's wrist watch were recovered from her.

The above information was disclosed by the Assistant General Secretary, DESAM Ehsan at a press meet held at its head office.

The girl aged about 10 years, a resident of Moirang is studying in class four in a School located at Moirang at present.

She had stolen gold from Ibeni Jewellery, Wahengbam Leikai and mobile phones and recharge cards from Good Fate (retailer), Nambol City Bus parking.

She stole the things on instruction of two girls Romita and Roji, both about 15 years old, and residents of Sugnu.

According to the statement of the girl, the two girls brought her to Imphal on the pretext of buying her sweets (eatables) on April 10 last.

When they arrived at Imphal, the two girls asked her to steal gold from the jewellery store at Wahengbam Leikai in order to meet her return bus fare.

They also asked her to steal mobile phones and recharge cards from the retailer at Nambol Keithel.

They gave her a sum of Rs 100 for the work which she used in buying sweets and exercise books.

She was again brought to Imphal and asked to steal gold from a jewellery store by the two girls, where she was caught by the owner.

Condemning the act, Ehsan asked parents of the school going children to keep vigil even when their child went to school.

Alleging that the government is not bothered about such petty crimes that harm the society in future but is interested only in the police achievements of daily killings in so called encounters, he demanded the state government to book the culprits behind the scene.

According to K Bishworjit, the owner of Ibeni jewellery, the girl came to his store on April 10 last and asked him the cost of a bangle.

Then she stole jewelleries worth about Rs 5,300 when he was away for a while.

He searched for her at several bus parkings that day but could not find her.

And she again come today in pretext to buy bangles.

The owner of Good Fate recharge vendor, Nambol Keithel, Nongmaithem Achouba, the girl stole recharge cards worth Rs 65,000 and a handset taking advantage of his absence on April 10 last.

Expressing concern about her future, the girl will be handed over to her family, said the Assistant General Secretary, DESAM Ehsan.
