Imphal, April 30 2009:
The CPI candidate Dr M Nara on Thursday bets he will resign from politics and withdraw his candidature if the Congress dares to assert that they are not using unfair practice in the recently held Lok Sabha election in Inner Manipur.
Speaking at a sit in protest held at Bishnupur bazaar organised by the Left and Democratic Coordination Committee, Dr Nara said that some powerful Congress workers have cast several votes by taking into possession the voter ID cards of electorates at various polling stations in the recent Lok Sabha election.
"Most of the polling officials including presiding officers at the polling stations had not resisted the act," Dr Nara pointed out adding that the Congress workers have done whatever they like freely.
Dr Nara said that the Congress had used force knowing well that the voters cannot be enticed by money.
He asserted that the series of protest launched by the LDCC is not meant exclusively for the conduct of re-poll, but to teach the government how to do good things.
He added nothing good will result from winning election by forcible means.
The CPI candidate said that more than half of the voters in inner Manipur were suppressed of their voting rights in the Lok Sabha election.
Addressing the protestors, the election agent of Dr Nara, L Sotinkumar said that the Congress's assurance of performing magic to win the election has been manifested in the Andro assembly constituency.
