Imphal, May 30 2017:
With the arrival of the rainy season, All Manipur Progressive Farmers' Association (AMPFA) has appealed to the State Government to provide good quality rice seeds to farmers abundantly so as to augment rice production in the State.
Addressing a press meet held at Manipur Press Club today, AMPFA president Luwangsangbam Dhono expressed grave concern over the decreasing area of paddy rice fields in the State.
He observed that the number of population is increasing and as such the Government ought to come up with prompt measures such as providing abundant rice seeds to farmers in order to meet the requirement.
The APMFA president further appealed to the Government to open urea outlets in each of the districts and instruct District Agriculture Officers and Extension Officers to attend office regularly.
There have been instances when farmers could not get a chance to discuss with District Agriculture Officers and Extension Officers as they were found absent during office hours, he pointed out.
Dhono expressed hope that the Government would address the grievances encountered by farmers of the State.
